Granite blocks found along White Plains Road are meant to prevent illegal parking - but Bronx residents have found a way around this initiative.
The blocks were placed on the road by the Department of Transportation as part of a program called "daylighting."
This was set to prevent illegal parking next to intersections, which the DOT says can increase visibility and safety at those intersections.
Bronx residents are not taking no for an answer when it comes to finding a place to park their cars. They have found ways to move the giant blocks out of the way.
Stephen Harris, a resident in the area, says he does not think this method is effective, and it is actually causing more harm.
"I really think that putting boulders to deter someone from parking is not the way to go," says Harris.
Some of the boulders can also be found in the middle of bike lanes.
"This can be very dangerous if the person actually hits the boulder, maybe tip over on the boulder or crack their head on the boulder," Harris explains.
News 12 reached out to DOT, and a spokesperson responded with the following statement:
"NYC DOT uses boulders and blocks like these to keep designated pedestrian areas clear to enhance visibility and safety for all road users. Tampering with infrastructure is completely unacceptable and creates dangerous roadway conditions for New Yorkers. Our teams will inspect this corridor and adjust the position of these blocks as needed."
