Bronx residents are buying Powerball tickets in hopes of becoming the lucky of winner of a jackpot that has climbed to more than half a billion dollars.
The jackpot for Saturday night's Powerball drawing is $535 million, making it the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
The $25 million jump is due to strong sales across all 47 of the participating lottery jurisdictions. The winning numbers for the Powerball drawing game are drawn from a field of one through 69.
The red Powerball is drawn from a separate field of one through 26.
The winning numbers for Wednesday's drawing were 9, 15, 43, 60 and 64, with a Powerball of 4.
Powerball is currently played in 44 states and Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The most recent large Powerball win was a $447.8 million jackpot awarded earlier this summer to a single winner in California. The cash payout of the current jackpot will be $340.1 million.
