Residents of Kingsbridge Heights are concerned about strong winds heading toward the Bronx after a huge tree fell onto Claflin Avenue earlier this week.
On Wednesday morning, the tree was completely uprooted from the ground and toppled over onto parked cars.
Some neighbors on the block fear this could happen in tonight’s storm as well, especially since the street is full of other leaning trees. Sean Flynn told News 12 it's a part of nature.
"When there's a storm coming, we know not to park next to it," said Flynn. "We know to listen for the creeks and cracks to see if a tree is going to come down."
City officials are now urging Bronx residents to plan ahead. If there is an outage, follow these tips:
- Stay clear of downed power lines
- Turn off appliances
- Call 911 only in an emergency
A travel advisory is in effect ahead of tonight's anticipated heavy rain and strong winds that officials say could reach 50 mph.
