(10/10/06) BRONX ? Residents held a rally Tuesday urging the city and state to step in and solve what they call a housing affordability crisis.
Bronx residents say an endangered affordable housing program could leave them with literally no place to go. The Mitchell-Lama program offers tax incentives to building owners and landlords in exchange for affordable rent. However, many landlords have recently been pulling out of the program.
Some now fear the program is in danger of collapsing, leaving rents too high for average tenants to pay. They hope leaders step in to take care of the problem before it?s too late.
