Bronx residents were encouraged to shop locally for Small Business Saturday.

Mom-and-pop shops in City Island attracted customers with day-long deals and items that can't be found in bigger chains.

Shoppers say local stores also give a more personal shopping experience.

"This is a place where you feel you're buying something one-on-one from a person," says Donna Eubanks.

Small business owners tell News 12 that Small Business Saturday helps support their shops throughout the year.
