The second phase of a possible rezoning plan spanning nearly 130 blocks is underway in the Bronx, but is the proposal a welcomed change or a threat for those living on Southern Boulevard?
The Department of City Planning held a listening session Thursday, addressing concerns about affordable housing. The city hopes to put forth its Southern Boulevard plan by the fall, focusing on a number of key issues surround Longwood and Crotona Park East, including access to jobs, the creation of home-ownership opportunities, and walk-ability in the neighborhood.
Some residents feel the city's improvements offer a false promise to Bronx natives.
One person says the proposal is a handout to developers with affordable housing added in. They think it will allow a lot of development, leading to many being displaced by rising rent.
