A Bronx senior is turning to News 12 for help getting major issues fixed in her East Tremont apartment.
Carmen Ortiz is an independent great-grandmother of nine who has lived in her Marmion Avenue apartment for 40 years. She says the an expanding hole in her living room is just one of many problems in her home. She says it began as a ceiling leak, and months later has now widened to a gaping hole.
The 67-year-old’s daughter says that the living conditions in the apartment have deteriorated lately.
She says her mother's first-floor apartment is frequently cold. Besides a space heater, the great-grandmother uses a heavy coat to stay warm in her bedroom.
Ortiz says there’s just a trickle of water in her bathroom on most days. For the past three months, Ortiz says she's had resort to using buckets to shower because of insufficient running water in her bathroom.
News 12 reached out to Marmion Realty, which manages the Bronx building, to get answers, but no one was available to talk.
The 67-year-old says she shouldn't have to deal with these ongoing problems and that they are taking a toll on her health.
