Shoppers in the Bronx said they're concerned that their Family Dollar will close following the announcement that the company will close hundreds of stores nationwide.
Six hundred Family Dollar stores are set to shut their doors in the first half of this year, while 370 will shut their doors over the next several years as leases expire.
A company spokesperson says a comprehensive review was initiated in the fourth quarter of 2023 to identify and address underperforming stores, which led to the decision.
Thirty Dollar Tree stores will also close down in the process.
Shoppers in Castle Hill said although the stores are considered a jackpot, other locations leave them disappointed.
Resident Georgina Cruz said these stores are essential, especially now with the surge of prices due to inflation.
"I believe they help, especially now with the economy. Prices are too high," Cruz said.
It is unclear which locations, if any, in the Bronx will close.
