A member of the Truman High School cross country team was met with a surprise on Wednesday, as he was invited to the Bermuda XC cross country challenge.
Runner and student Fidelis Osunkwo received the message from U.S. Olympian Hazel Clark, and is one of two student-athletes from New York to be selected to compete in the event.
Fidelis Osunkwo is a two-time city champion in cross country, and after joining because his friend was on the team, the sport is taking him to new experiences.
“No matter what, I just don’t give up,” said Fidelis. “That’s what made me want to do long distances, because if I do long distance, that energy… is going to be there.”
The race is scheduled for Dec. 3 and Fidelis will get to spend four days at a resort that includes everything from swimming to cliff diving.
