Students at Kings College School of Champions participated in a spelling bee Wednesday.
The school's auditorium was filled with students, staff and family members for the event.
The guest speaker for the event was Rep. Adriano Espallat.
The organizer of the bee says the event does more than just test the student's knowledge.
"The spelling bee is important because it teaches [students] how to be responsible, how to set goals, to realize that they can achieve their dreams when they are trying to do their best," says Joanna Clarke-Comdom.
It is the 11th spelling bee at the school, and organizers say they hope to continue the event for many years.
