Some Bronx tenants have filed a federal lawsuit against their landlord, claiming the Pinnacle Group is a corporate slumlord.
The suit, filed Wednesday, accuses the company and owner Joel Weiner of several charges. They include harassment, fraud, rent overcharges and illegal evictions. Residents also say the Pinnacle Group fails to make repairs.
Tenants say the landlord is trying to push them out to raise rents.
The company owns several buildings, including one at 1700 Grand Concourse and has thousands of New York City tenants. The Pinnacle Group admits it has started the eviction process on about 5,000 tenants, but maintains its eviction rate is lower than the industry average.
The state attorney general is investigating the Pinnacle Group's practices.
