The owner of a Bronx video store is begging for the return of his dog that was inside his car when it was stolen last week.
Don Lampone left his red 2012 Honda running to grab his wallet from his store in Morrisania around 2 p.m. last Wednesday. He says when he returned a few minutes later, his car was gone - along with his dog that was inside.
"I went crazy because I knew the dog was in there. I know I made a big mistake. I borrowed a friend's car and started looking all over. I searched for hours, and I couldn't find him,” Lampone says.
His message for the carjacker is for his dog Brownie to be returned safe and sound.
“Just bring the dog back. I'm not mad at you, you did what you did. We're not going to press charges or anything. All we want is the dog,” he says.
Brownie is an 8-year-old Doberman pinscher-Chihuahua mix who needs medicine for a heart condition.
"Maybe they're trying to take care of him, but they don't know what's happening. That's why it's important that somebody else sees him and helps us out,” Lampone says.
Lampone has been scouring Facebook pages and Craigslist for any signs of Brownie. He's increasing his original $1,000 reward to $2,500.
"No questions asked. You bring the dog back, I'll be very grateful,” Lampone says.
Police say whoever stole the car crossed the George Washington Bridge over to New Jersey, but no arrests have been made yet.
