A Bronx mother was arrested Tuesday on charges of trying to kill her infant daughter.

Police say 25-year-old Carol Gonzalez tried to drown her 5-month-old child in the bathtub of their Beach Avenue apartment. According to police, Gonzalez told officers she had been bathing her daughter when the girl slipped under the water. Gonzalez went to a neighbor for help, and the neighbor removed the child from the tub.

Gonzalez is charged with attempted murder and endangering the welfare of a child. The baby is in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center.
