The Bronx Panthers, of Belmont, kicked off registration day on Saturday with football scrimmages. However, the team has already suffered a big loss.
Their equipment shed full of banners, shoulder pads and more than 200 helmets was broken into, vandalized and cleared out.
Shawn Godboat, who runs the team, says he and coach Nathan Collins hadn't opened the shed in over a year since the team was sidelined due to the pandemic. He says they discovered the break-in last month.
Godboat and Collins say funding always helps, but they're mainly looking for equipment donations.
They say the kids would share helmets with each other, but no longer can due to COVID-19.
Police say they're still investigating the incident.
