The Muslim community in the Bronx marked the second day of Ramadan with prayers on Sunday at the Bangla Bazar Jame Masjid.

The masjid has served the Parkchester community since 2012, holding prayers five times a day.

The Muslim community in the area has grown bigger as the years have gone by and hundreds, sometimes even a thousand people, will visit the masjid daily for prayers.

Right now, during the holiest month of the Islamic religion, it serves as a place for the Muslim community to gather for evening prayers, also known as Iftar, and to break their fast.

During this month of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide practice fasting from sunrise to sunset as a symbol of sacrifice, as well as a period of reflection and spiritual growth.

The masjid's imam said they are trying to build a bigger mosque in the empty lot next door to accomodate the growing community.

The last day of Ramadan will be on May 2 and the masjid opens its door to all who wish to join. It's located at 1351 Odell Street.
