The shutters are down at Vivero Live Poultry Farm in The Bronx amid the growing cases of the bird flu in New York City. This market is among several other live poultry markets forced to temporarily shut down to stop the spread.

According to Gov. Kathy Hochul, the markets must sell all healthy birds, and no inventory can be delivered for the next week.

The precautions are affecting customers who get live poultry weekly. One man says he comes to Vivero once or twice a week, and now he has to look for other options.

This action comes after seven cases of bird flu were found in The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.

This market among several others will be closed for extensive cleaning and sanitation for the next five days ordered by Gov. Kathy Hochul to stop the spread of the bird flu.

"These are simply measured common sense steps that will curb the spread of bird flu and ultimately keep New Yorkers safe," said the Gov. Hochul.

It is unclear which markets were affected, but the commissioner of health says there is little risk to New Yorkers.

"At this time, there is no human cases of avian influenza that have been diagnosed in New York state," said Dr. James McDonald, Commissioner of Health.

After extensive cleaning and sanitation over the next five days. The poultry markets will be inspected by the Health Department and if they pass, they will be allowed to reopen on Feb. 14.
