While most theaters are empty because of the pandemic, one has found a way to still put on a show while keeping its audience and performers safe.
The Brooklyn Ballet is moving forward with its annual production of "The Nutcracker."
Performers packed the stage at Kings Theater in 2019This year the show will go on, but it will be different.
There will be fewer performers at a different venue behind a glass wall. For years, the theater has used its space at 160 Schermerhorn St. to practice.
They’re calling it the Jewel Box, putting together a shortened version of their "Nutcracker" show.
It’ll be the only live production of "The Nutcracker" in the city.
The show will bring together ballet, flamenco, hip-hop and other styles of dance for a more inclusive show.
Dancer Bobby Major says he is happy to be back on stage to bring the show to life. The 20-minute shows are free and will run nine times beginning Thursday and ending on Sunday.
The company was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and is hoping to receive support from the community.
The company also says they would like to bring some joy in the middle of a difficult time.
