It has been just over one month since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. New Yorkers have been working to provide aid to those suffering the humanitarian crisis including one Brooklyn-based Ukrainian doctor helping to save the lives of those he calls family.

Boxes upon boxes lined the walls of Chateau Yaffa in Mill Basin full of lifesaving supplies like succhers, insulin, gauze pads, and medications.

"How much of an impact can I possibly make doing this? I need one person. One life. All the work, all the fundraising, all the sleepless nights, it's completely worth it," Dr. Shawn Yunayev says.

Along with Dr. Yunayev's non-profit charity organization Trans-Atlantic Medical Relief Foundation Inc., they're helping save lives.

Dr. Yunayev and his wife have been working since the week Russia invaded Ukraine to collect life-saving medical and humanitarian supplies from people all over the country to be placed directly into the hands of Ukrainians living in a war zone.

"They're under resourced and so now with all these millions of people coming through, it's becoming that much more important for us to really help them," he says.

Around $60,000, 4,000 pounds, and 10 shipping palettes worth of supplies have been delivered to those Ukrainians on the ground. Shipment number two is set to go out to those in need within the next few days.
