A Brooklyn music student put together a virtual performance of an iconic song that inspires hope, and the video getting thousands of views.
A 60-person orchestra and 240 voices brought together virtually by Harrison Sheckler for a message of hope.
Sheckler is half way through his program at Brooklyn College pursuing his master’s in music. He had the idea for the video after the school Symphonic Choir's performance with the New York Philharmonic was canceled due to coronavirus.
“I just felt so devastated for them that they had this great opportunity just taken away from them all of a sudden,” says Sheckler.
He says he reached out to all of his musical connections, ending up with 300 people representing 15 countries together in harmony.
Among them were many Brooklyn College music students.
Sheckler’s professor, Malcolm Merriweather, says he is including participation in the performance into his virtual course work.
“I hope that they can look back on this video and see it as an example of how the adapted during this time and continued to make music,” says Merriweather.

The song being performed is from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Carousel,” and Sheckler says it is timeless and fitting.
“I think it parallels what we're going through right now. When you walk through a storm keep your head up high. We're going through a storm right now. It’s a difficult time, but you have to strive just push through,” says Sheckler.
The video has gotten more than 200,000 views in less than a week.
