The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra held its Music from the Movies Concert Sunday in Park Slope.
The program at Washington Park featured music from “Encanto,” “West Side Story,” “Die Hard,” “The Wizard of Oz” and more.
The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra is a diverse group of amateur and professional musicians that performs music of all kinds.
"I think it makes it more accessible to play things that people have heard, and you know, it's not just for the concert hall. Music can be found everywhere, including movies we all know and love," said orchestra French horn player Erin Anderson.
The conservatory said the point of the program is for listeners to re-think what an orchestra is.
"In general, music concerts are sit down, quiet still and we at the conservatory want to make sure our events are very interactive, that we bring people in and have them actually engage with the music," said the conservatory's events and community partnerships manager Miranda Knutson.
The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has more events throughout the year with the same goal as the concert, which is getting more people involved and interested in music.
