Brooklyn’s P.S. 10’s chess team, the Brooklyn Gladiators, took home the fifth-grade national chess champion title again this month.
It's a chess competition to find out the best teams by grade level in the country. There were almost 2,500 kids at this year's championship.
The defending champions won the title as co-national champions, alongside Hunter College Campus School in Manhattan.
It was held in Washington D.C and had three days of play with seven rounds total. Around 40 states across the country were represented.
Program director David Mbonu said, “It was kind of a last minute come back. We were in eighth place going into the last round and somehow the kids were able to come in they did their best and they got first."
