A Brooklyn Heights couple is giving new life to a café that was a staple in the neighborhood before it shuttered back in 2019.

When Aubrie Therrien and her husband, Zachary Rubin, first moved to the neighborhood, they say the café quickly became their favorite. That's why when they heard that it would close, they decided to take over. This time, they gave it their own twist.

They decided to keep its original essence of a café by day, but it now turns into an enoteca-style restaurant by night.

The shop that once sold coffee and pastries has added on a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items -- from burritos to avocado toast.

Therrien and Rubin began to revive the café in February 2020 as they worked through struggles from the numerous COVID-19 restrictions that had been put in place. But despite those challenges, the couple says Vineapple is now seeing much success.

"It really is a labor of love and I think the neighborhood knows that. So that really, I think, has helped translate to its success. They were really supportive during COVID. We've had some dark times obviously, especially in the winter months with the resurgence of Omicron. But right now, business, is good and we want to keep it good," Therrien says.

Both Therrien and Rubin have also made it their mission to give back to the community by donating money to local charities.

They say they're hoping to continue to grow with the community
