A well-known immigration activist freed Tuesday morning from Immigration and Customs Enforcement attended President Donald Trump's State of the Union address.
Ravi Ragbir and his wife, an immigration lawyer, were guests of Rep. Nydia Velasquez.
A federal judge in New York City called his detention "unnecessarily cruel."
Ragbir has lived in the United States for over 20 years and is the executive director of the New Sanctuary Coalition for New York City.
He still faces an underlying Order of Deportation related to a wire fraud conviction years ago.
