A learning center in Bushwick teamed up with the community to gather supplies for Ukrainians in need.
The Ace Integration Head Start Center worked with Brooklyn residents and the families of students who are Ukrainian immigrants to collect baby supplies and medical and personal care items at a local playground.
Brooklyn children also created cards and art projects to be shared with Ukrainian kids in a show of solidarity and hope.
Mariia Venger, an organizer of the donation drive, says she has family in Ukraine that is providing other families with shelter. However, she says they are in dire need of daily necessities.
"There are people fleeing the country because of bombings and are forgetting their things because, that’s the last thing you think about when you need to get to safety,” Venger says. “I wish for this to stop, but I know it will not be ending today or tomorrow."
All donations that were dropped off Saturday will be donated to volunteers and those on the front lines in Ukraine.
