Shoppers in Brooklyn have a new spot to support businesses in the borough.
Brooklyn Made is a new store that is home to 55 retailers from across the borough. All the products in the shop promote designers, mostly from communities of color, who embody the essence of Brooklyn.
"What's beautiful about this store and about Brooklyn in general is just that there's so many people that don't get to have their voices heard... the borough itself amplifies their voices, just like mine, and I really appreciate that," said Alex Koppara, of Maveli Coffee - one of the many stores represented in Brooklyn Made.
District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says he believes the new storefront will also help to boost public safety.
"Part of keeping Brooklyn safe is by promoting its beauty," said Gonzalez. "By encouraging businesses, we know that communities when they thrive, when people are out shopping and they feel safe, that there's a general sense of safety."
The store is located in Sunset Park, and it's focused on emphasizing that Brooklyn is a brand that they want to be represented by the entrepreneurs that call it home.
