A Brooklyn man is heading to Puerto Rico to search for his father who has not been in contact since Hurricane Maria hit the island territory.
"I'm absolutely nervous," said Emmanuel Vega. "My dad is there, stranded alone."
Vega's 67-year-old father Samuel lived in Brooklyn until health issues, including high blood pressure and diabetes, forced him to retire to Puerto Rico.
Overwhelmed with anxiety, Vega booked a flight to Puerto Rico. It was scheduled to leave Monday but was canceled. He managed to secure a seat on the next flight out.
Once there, it will take another two hours by car to reach Guanica, where his father lives. Vega is bringing supplies that include lights and canned food.
"My intentions are to bring him back immediately until this stuff blows over," he says.
