A Brooklyn model is taking part in the New York City Marathon to raise awareness about learning disabilities, including one he overcame.

Nathan Katsuki, 29, is a model and actor originally from Boise, Idaho who now lives in Brooklyn. When he was 7, he was diagnosed with a phonological processing disorder. His parents took him to the Lee Pesky Learning Center, an Idaho nonprofit that helps children with learning disabilities.

Katsuki said the experience helped him overcome his disability. This year, he's representing the center in the New York City Marathon to raise awareness and funds.

The center was founded in 1997 by 87-year-old Bronx resident and author Alan Pesky. Pesky says he couldn't be prouder of Katsuki after watching him overcome adversity and go on to encourage others.

"To have Nate as a part of our team and alumnus from our organization is just extraordinary,” Pesky says.

Katsuki says his good cause will keep him motivated during the run on Sunday.

“This is the least I can do, to raise money and awareness about a cause that I care about,” he says.

For his 30th birthday next year, Katsuki plans to run 100 miles to raise money for the Learning Center.
