The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on many businesses, including museums, and now a community museum in Brooklyn is fighting to keep its doors open.

After closing its doors for months due to the pandemic and suffering financial losses, the City Reliquary in Williamsburg has launched a campaign to raise the money needed to stay open.

It's a community museum that's been around for 18 years.

The museum showcases New York City's history through thousands of artifacts and memorabilia that sit on display inside the museum.

The volunteer staff says the museum relied heavily on admission tickets to bring in revenue, but now that it has reopened, it has launched a new membership program that would help them get the $3,000 a month needed to cover operating expenses.

So far, it has raised more than 90% of its goal, but it is still hoping to get even more campaign subscriptions by midnight, as it looks to secure the future of the museum.

Staff say that if they don't get the money needed to stay open, they'll have to close, but would still hope to keep the museum alive in a different location.
