Brooklyn residents give back in honor of National Volunteer Week
Members of the Brooklyn community gave back to their neighborhoods through the Bloom Against Brooklyn event, using the healing power of flowers to reduce social isolation.
The service project is one of over 100 opportunities hosted by nonprofit New York Cares for National Volunteer Week. Volunteers created bright bouquets to hand out to hundreds of Brooklyn residents, specifically home-bound seniors and local nursing home residents.
Organizers with New York Cares are hoping to use this week of volunteer work to bring together New Yorkers and tackle the city’s greatest needs.
"We know that we're bringing joy to somebody we'll never see but we know that our work will bring happiness,” said one volunteer.
National Volunteer Week runs through April 22. Click here for more opportunities to volunteer with New York Cares.
