Shoppers flocked to the Gateway Mall in Brooklyn, bundled up head to toe as they went from store to store in the frigid weather.
The mall's parking lot was flooded with cars, and walkways in the mall were filled with hundreds of shoppers.
Those who came out to buy their last-minute holiday gifts say that the long lines and wait times have been the worst part about the day so far, even more than the cold and icy weather.
"I don't really like shopping last minute," said mother Nichelle Thompson, "but I'm here, in the cold, trying to get in the Christmas spirit."
