Shoppers in Brooklyn said they're concerned following the announcement that Family Dollar and Dollar Tree will close nearly 1,000 stores.
They said Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are places they've always turned to in a pinch for just about anything - from toiletries to groceries, and even last-minute gifts.
Many residents in Flatlands said they were disappointed to hear their local store could be closing.
Dollar Tree has not revealed which exact stores will close.
Family Dollar, which is also owned by Dollar Tree, says it will close 600 stores by June with 370 more on the way as soon as its stores' leases are up.
Dollar tree says at least 30 of its stores will be closing as well.
The reason for all these closures, they say, is due to health and safety concerns. The chain was selling items stocked in a rat-infested warehouse, according to the the U.S. Justice Department.
Shoppers said there are several local mom-and-pop 99 cent stores, which some said is going to have to be their new go-to if the chain stores close.
Shoppers also said they hope their Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores give them a heads up if they will close because they want a closeout sale to get the most bang for their buck while they still can.
