Road closures are set to become a nightly routine for Bronx residents as construction to revamp the Bruckner Expressway is underway.
The effort is a part of the $422 million Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project aiming to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety through a new design.
The construction will convert a ramp between the expressway and Sheridan Boulevard on the right-hand side. This will enhance foot traffic in the area with a shared pathway, a pedestrian bridge that crosses Bruckner Boulevard and acts as a safer alternative for students going to school at PS 75.
The project will also include a 117 spot parking lot with 24 electric car stations, including four rapid charging spots under the expressway.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, Exit 49 off the expressway will be closed until the following morning at 5 a.m. It will continue closing for routine construction at those times.
Officials advise commuters to allow themselves extra time to reach their destination if they have to drive during construction.
