A fire
broke out at a seven-story residential building in University Heights
just before 3 p.m. today.
The FDNY says it took around one hour to get the fire
under control, with one injured person who suffered serious burns taken to NYC
Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition. The fire started
on the fifth floor and spread to the sixth and seventh floors
above, the FDNY says.
The
video sent to News 12 by a viewer shows the top floors
surrounded by black smoke. The Red Cross is assisting those
who live at the building who may not be able to return.
The
cause of the fire remains unknown, and fire marshals are still investigating.
