Multiple businesses in Greenpoint were robbed and vandalized Thursday morning, and now one of the business owners is hoping for an arrest in the case.
Surveillance video shows the moment a burglar used an object to break into the Bagel Point Restaurant.
Police say the person climbed through the side window of the shop around 2 a.m. In the surveillance video, the burglar is seen taking money from the register and the tip jar.
The manager of the restaurant says the burglar got away with less than $100.
Police say another incident happened in the area around the same time at the Palace in Greenpoint.
A still photo taken from surveillance shows a person in what appears to be the same outfit as the person who broke into the Bagel Point Restaurant.
The owner of the Palace says the person threw a brick through the window, breaking the glass, but that nothing inside was stolen.
Right now, they have cardboard up in the place of the glass window. The Bagel Point replaced their window on Friday.
The manager says he’s questioning the motive of the burglar after he says electronic items were left behind.
"I don't really think they're here for money because there was a lot of valuable stuff they left. They could've stolen laptops and iPads. But this is a warning to all the small businesses in Greenpoint, you know, not just us. So we got to come together as a community to kind of fight this and bring more awareness,” said Operations Manager Sam.
He says they have installed a security system since the robbery in hopes of preventing incidents like this in the future.
Police say no arrests have been made at this time but that the investigation is ongoing.
