Burlington County teen seeks donor to help her battle leukemia

A Burlington County teen battling leukemia for the fifth time is hoping someone will step up and help her with a lifesaving transplant.
Abbie Buser, 19, is now in the fight of her life.
"In spite of the fact that she's had these challenges, first being born with Down Syndrome. and then facing cancer five times, she's always got a smile on her face and she literally puts a smile on everyone else's face,” says Terri Macintosh, Buser’s cousin.
Macintosh says they won’t let cancer win.
“When they told her that she had it again, she said, ‘OK, we’ll just beat it again,’” Macintosh says.
Buser is a senior at Burlington City High School. She was first diagnosed with leukemia in 2011. She has beaten it four times. This time she is hoping to find the right person to help her beat it for good.
“She needs either a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, and that’s what we do through Be the Match,” says Macintosh.
A “Be the Match” event will be held Saturday at Burlington City High School from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Potential donors can see if they are eligible.
The process is as simple as a mouth swab that is sent off to a national registry.
"So far we have 41 people signed up through Abbie's campaign, just for virtually, so we're hoping to get a lot more tomorrow,” says Macintosh.
Those who may not be a match for Buser, may be a match for someone else.
"Even if you can't donate because you're not old enough, or you’re too old, share it with family, share it with a friend, put it out there on social media and make a public statement. You don't have to know Abbie to do something good for someone or anyone that may need this,” says special education teacher Sue Adris.
