One person was injured, and many others say their apartments are now unlivable after a pipe burst inside a West Farms apartment building.
Tenants at 2120 Daly Ave. say they woke up to water pouring through their ceilings and light fixtures, flooding hallways and apartments. Electronics, including TVs and lamps, were damaged as water spread through multiple floors of the building.
Residents say the flooding has been an ongoing problem for years, but this latest incident was far worse. With temperatures below freezing, standing water in hallways turned to ice, creating hazardous conditions for anyone trying to leave their apartments.
One mother was injured after slipping on the wet stairs while the building’s elevators were out of service. Neighbors say an ambulance had to be called to get her out safely.
Several tenants say they repeatedly called for help, but claim no one from management came to address the flooding right away.
Management for the building, Daly Ave. Associates, confirmed to News 12 that a manager was on site but declined to provide further details about the situation or what repairs are being made.
