Shoppers all over New York City are taking part in Small Business Saturday, a day aimed at supporting local small businesses and entrepreneurs rather than chain companies.
Small Business Saturday was created by American Express 12 years ago and has since become an annual holiday staple. The credit card giant reported that the event brought in about $23.3 billion last year.
In addition to reporting an increase in purchases at small business over the years, they also found that 70% of people they surveyed encouraged others to shop at local stores on Small Business Saturday.
News 12’s Julio Avila was in Brooklyn to scout some local shops.
