State police say a Bronx father was fatally struck while trying to retrieve his son's baseball that went into the road.
Officials say 35-year-old Nicholas Barba was struck by a car traveling eastbound on I-84 in the town of Wawayanda Saturday evening.
Police say Barba's car had broken down on the side of the road. He'd begun a game of catch with his son while the family waited for a tow truck to arrive when police say the ball got away from him.
When Barba attempted to cross back over eastbound I-84, he was struck by a car in front of his family.
Barba was rushed to Orange County Regional Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save him.
Police say the driver of the car involved in the accident is unlikely to face any charges.
