Tenants of a 21-story building on Westchester Avenue say their elevators have been broken for the past week and are calling on the New York City Housing Authority to fix them.
Residents say several people have gotten stuck in the elevators and that NYCHA has done nothing to fix the problem. They say they have to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs to get to their apartments and some are worried they won?t be able to get out of the building in an emergency.
Some complain it?s not safe for the elderly and disabled to climb the stairs, and a few say they have already fallen on the steps.
News 12 The Bronx reached out to NYCHA. A spokesperson said one elevator was fixed and that crews are working on fixing the other one.
