The Bronx has teamed up with a province in China to become sister cities.
The Songhiang district of Shanghai China signed a friendship agreement with the Bronx. City leaders say the new proclamation will lead to more economic opportunities for both districts.
"I think that exchange, having delegations go back and forth and exchange those ideas, will go a long way in creating jobs, but more importantly in finding ways for better health service for the people of the Bronx," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
After signing the proclamation, delegates from China visited the New York Botanical Garden and the Hutchinson Metro Center. Some in the Chinese delegation who visited the Bronx years ago say it has come a long way.
Bronx officials say they are hopeful that the partnership will eventually help the borough make its mark globally.
