It was a dream came true Thursday night for Sammy Mejia. The former Roosevelt High School stand-out became the first Bronx resident selected in the NBA draft since 2005.
The Detroit Pistons tabbed Mejia, 24, as the 57th pick of the draft. He was one of three guards that the Central Division champs selected.
Mejia, a former DePaul University Blue Demon, was a second round pick and is not guaranteed a contract. He must play his way on to the roster.
Mejia finished his career at DePaul with more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists. He tallied the second most minutes played in school history during his four years.
