The Local Planning Committee (LPC) for the Morris Park revitalization project is looking for proposals on projects from Bronx residents.
It wants the public's input on how to spend a $20 million grant from the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative. "It's the first time in 10 years that the Bronx has received funding. And it's the first time in the history of the program that one county got the entire $20 million, and that is the Bronx," said Borough President Vanessa Gibson. The money will help strengthen commercial corridors, support small businesses and overall economic development in the greater Morris Park area. The greater Morris Park area includes Morris Park, Van Nest, Westchester Square, Indian Village and Pelham Parkway. Gibson told News 12 the area has strong local organizations, business improvement districts and community groups that will work with them to reimagine the area. Gibson also notes part of the reason the greater Morris Park area was chosen for the grant was the fact that there are multiple Metro-North stations being built, as well as the Hutch Metro Center, which will make the area a critical transit hub in the Bronx. The LPC is co-chaired by Borough President Gibson and Lisa Sorin, president of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce. It is now actively seeking proposals from the public for the initiative's Strategic Investment Plan. An intent to submit form is due by July 25 at 5 p.m. and full project proposal forms are due by Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. Click here to learn more information about the initiative and how to submit a project proposal.
