Car crashes into Pelham Bay restaurant, multiple people injured
A car accident left a Chinese restaurant in Pelham Bay without a facade and left multiple people injured Friday night.
The car was removed from the scene on Westchester Avenue, and employees at Lee Xing were left to clean up the mess. In a video from the scene, a police officer is seen removing a stroller from inside the restaurant.
News 12 is told there was a baby in the stroller when the collision happened. Police sources tell News 12 an older woman was trying to park her car before the crash occurred.
In the video, you can also see someone on the sidewalk in a neon jacket miss the car by a few seconds as it backs up into the restaurant.
News 12 spoke with the restaurant owner off-camera and says he knows the woman's husband, who is a returning customer. The owner says the woman's husband claims the gas pedal got stuck.
One man who has been coming to the restaurant for 25 years says he was scared when he heard the news. He says he came over to make sure the owner was OK.
The Department of Buildings added that their investigation revealed no structural damage to the restaurant and have ordered the owner to board up the damaged area.
News 12 is told the driver, the mother of the baby and the baby were taken to a hospital.
