Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist Cardi B was at her old stomping grounds this morning – paying a visit to I.S. 232 in Morris Heights where she attended school.
She, alongside Schools Chancellor David Banks, spoke about her experience in the public school system and the importance of education. She also announced a donation of $100,000 to the school.
"Where do you want to be in a couple of years from now…make sure you think long-term," she said while addressing the excited students.
The visit is part of a partnership tour across the five boroughs with Community Capacity Development – a human justice organization working to wipe out systemic challenges in marginalized communities of color.
Cardi B has praised the organization for their work in gun violence prevention, youth mentorship and education.
K. Bain, the founder and executive director of CCD, says Cardi’s donation will go a long way.
"She's here to be a real model for the young people," he said.
Principal Desiree Resto told News 12 that the much-needed funding would go toward in-school performing arts and other areas that would set the students up for success.
