The Cardinal Spellman hockey team took a step toward winning their first ever championship in the Catholic League C Division finals. In game one of the three game series, the Falcons got right to it. In the first period, Steven Mele picked up the loose puck at center ice, skated in and beat the goalie's glove side. Less than 30 seconds later, Mele struck again putting the rebound in the goal. Spellman hung on for the 8-7 win in overtime. Game two is Thursday in Yonkers.
