A high school in Edenwald says it’s ready to welcome back its school community, but because of COVID-19, new measures are being put in place at the school to protect staff and its student body.
Principal Daniel O’Keefe at Cardinal Spellman High School showed News 12 some of the extensive changes the Catholic high school is now implementing to ensure students and teachers have a safe learning environment come this fall.
Face coverings are required to enter the school, as well as a temperature check. The high school will also be doing a combination of remote and in-classroom instruction when it welcomes students back in September.
Students will have a laptop that provides live feeds from their teachers, and classrooms will also be equipped with swizzle cameras so teachers can move around freely.
Drinking fountains have also been changed to handwashing stations. Sanitizing dispensers have been installed throughout the building.
Classroom sizes are also smaller with desks 6-feet apart to maintain social distancing.
The principal says if a student or administrator exhibits COVID-like symptoms, that person will be isolated and proper CDC procedures will then be followed.
