Video captured the moments police say a man crashed a BMW early Sunday morning on Jerome Avenue in Fordham. He later died at a hospital.

It happened just before 4:30 a.m. The NYPD says the red BMW side-swiped one of the support poles for the elevated subway track near the corner of Jerome Avenue and East 181st Street, before crashing into another pole about a block away near the corner of Jerome Avenue and Clinton Place head on.

In surveillance video obtained by News 12, there appears to be a red light on Jerome Avenue, when the car is seen swerving around another car stopped at the intersection, before crashing into that pole.

People are then seen pulling the driver out of the car. Police say that while he was taken to the hospital, it was too late to save him.

The driver was not immediately named. It wasn’t clear what caused him to lose control of the car.

According to Vision Zero data, at least seven other people have been hurt in car crashes on that block this year, but none have been fatal.
