Celebration held in the Bronx to honor hip-hop legend Sha Rock

Sha Rock grew up in the Bronx during the early years of hip-hop. She is often considered the first female rapper and credited for paving the way for modern day artists, such as Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

Residents gathered in the Bronx to celebrate hip-hop legend Sha Rock with live performances from artists from around the city.
Sha Rock grew up in the Bronx during the early years of hip-hop. She is often considered the first female rapper and credited for paving the way for modern day artists, such as Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
A stage occupied a basketball court on Gun Hill Playground for the celebration.
Organizers say the event was also about marking African American Music Appreciation Month.
They add that they plan on holding similar events throughout the summer.
