The FDNY says firefighters rescued a girl Sunday from a house fire on East 196th Street in Pelham Bay.
The fire started around 1 p.m. at the back of the house where it quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire.
Deputy Chief Kenneth Scanlon says they rescued the girl from the basement while the fire travelled to the second floor of the house.
One firefighter was also sent to the hospital for minor injuries.
"A lot of fire in the attic, our biggest worry at this fire was the type of construction. It was lightweight laminated high beams, which poses a collapse hazard for us because it doesn't last as long in a fire as as conventional lumbar,” says Scanlon.
