A best-selling author made a special presentation to children Saturday afternoon at the Bronx Library Center to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her book, “I Love My Hair."

Natasha Tarpley taught children to embrace their heritage during the celebration of her book.  

"I Love My Hair" is the story of a little girl named Keyana who discovers the beauty and magic of her hair. It’s aim is to encourage black children to be proud of their heritage and develop strong self-confidence.

The author says she wrote the book because there wasn't enough positivity and joy in books about African-American children. 

Tarpley is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship.

The Literacy Freedom Project, a nonprofit organization, helped organize the celebration.
